Carla is a Certified and Insured Yoga and Meditation teacher and Founder of Flying Heart Yoga.
Over 35 years experience teaching group fitness, personal training, and 24 years teaching yoga and meditation.
Before her Yogic studies, Carla studied early childhood trauma and psychology and practiced as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, CTRS. Her psychiatric work gave her experience in addictions counseling and mental health counseling for adults, teens, and children. Her experience with issues of aging and diseases like dementia and Parkinson's have given her tools in helping people experience better health, vitality, and more joy in their lives.
Her Tibetan Mahayana Buddhist studies with several yoga masters like, Geshe Sopa and Thubten Norbu Rinpoche (The brother of His Holiness the Dalai Lama) have guided her in teaching mindfulness meditation techniques, karma yoga, mantra, and yogic philosophy to her students.
She has studied yoga, meditation, and pranayama with many renowned teachers, including Aadil Palkhivala, Rodney Yee, Shiva Rae, Angela Farmer, John Schumacher and Kandy Love.
Since early childhood Carla has been involved in fitness, dance, and group exercise, and always opted for dance or some kind of physical training as a means of physical release, conditioning and self-expression.
Her love of physical fitness soon included a love of circus training and aerial arts, including flying trapeze, trampoline and everything aerial. It took extremely vigorous training to become an elite athlete on trapeze, performing for and delighting audiences for 3 decades. She even went on to produce her own circuses in Ft. Myers, Florida.
The toll on her body from such intense training is what brought her to yoga. It was yoga that helped her to heal and preserve her body from all those years of constant training and teaching.
She quickly realized that yoga would not JUST heal the body. That a regular practice could be life transforming.
After becoming a personal trainer in 2000, she quickly realized the advanced benefits of one on one fitness and yoga training.
Carla is also a student of world travel, and her light shines through with her ability to connect with others behind a smile that breaks down barriers!
In class, explore the art and science of letting go and experience gratitude and joy, all while enjoying the physical aspects of Iyengar yoga, including heart openers, hip openers, strength and confidence building via standing poses and balance postures. With yoga props, demonstrations, alignment cues, and humor, Carla will help you find yoga success on your own terms.
After all, it’s YOUR yoga practice!
